This position is located in the Web Services Unit, Statistics Division. The Website Assistant reports to the Chief of the Statistics Division and the supervision of the Head of the Web Services Unit.

**Responsibilities**:
Under the overall guidance of the Chief of the Statistics Division and the supervision of the Head of the Web Services Unit, the Website Assistant is responsible for the following:
1. Creates new websites by:
a) creating prototypes and mockups;
b) building CMS themes for websites using advanced front-end development skills;
c) researching and implementing new CSS frameworks and other media components;
d) identifying and resolving front-end development issues;
e)





providing front-end support to the ECLAC Divisions throughout the website creation process;
f) implementing interaction with client-side JavaScript libraries.

2. Assists with the development and promotion of the ECLAC and UN web branding style guides, using ECLAC and UN established standards for web technologies, web design programming languages and tools.
a) Assists with the collection and analysis of data as well as preparation of data presentations and reports for information sharing, responding to queries, knowledge management, planning and decision making.
b) Assists with visualizations and updating information material such as web pages or brochures.

3. Works with unit developers and in coordination with language units to ensure the multilingual capabilities of CMS platforms are supported by:
a) managing assigned projects through the use of online collaboration tools such as wikis for technical documentation, JIRA or alike for issue tracking, and version control tools;
b)





troubleshooting front end webpage loading and multimedia integration issues;
c) researching multilingual CMS solutions that work the two official ECLAC languages, Spanish, English, and Portuguese and French;
4. Assists with website testing and maintenance to meet stringent quality controls and applicable web standards by:
a) checking cross-browser, cross-platform and cross-device compatibility and accessibility using appropriate tools;
b) ensuring images, text, forms, audio, and video content meet accessibility and design requirements;
c) checking for usability, functionality and language adaptation across popular devices and platforms, including mobile and tablet devices;
d) adjusting designs accordingly by implementing responsive media queries,





scripts and other responsive design techniques.

5. Works closely with the content producers to collect and document user requirements by:
a) conducting and documenting interviews with users and other interested parties;
b) creating wireframes and high-fidelity mockups that meet ECLAC web branding standards.

6. Develops and maintains working relationships with ECLAC staff, producing original content for ECLAC.

Education
High school diploma or equivalent is required.

Job - Specific Qualification
Supplemental coursework/training in web design and/or development is required.

Work Experience
A minimum of seven (7) years of experience in public communications, web design,





website production, front end web/usability design or related area is required.

Experience producing multi-platform and multi-device (responsive) web design is required.

Experience working with graphic design tools is desirable.

Experience in designing and developing interactive web features is desirable.

Experience working with Content Management Systems (CMS) is desirable.

1 year or more of experience in data analytics or related area is desirable.

Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat and Spanish is a working language of ECLAC. For the position(s) advertised, fluency in both English and Spanish is required.
