Organizational Setting

The region faces significant challenges in eradicating hunger and malnutrition. People suffering from hunger slightly decreased from 7 percent in to 6.

5 percent in .8 The prevalence of moderate and severe food insecurity, measured by the Food Insecurity Experience Scale (FIES), has also decreased from 40.

3 percent in to 37.5 percent in . The current cycle of high food prices poses a challenge for food security and nutrition (FSN), particularly as the region has the highest cost of a healthy diet compared to world averages.

FAO works in support of its member countries to face these challenges through its Regional Priority 2 :





Ending hunger and achieving food security and nutrition (Better Nutrition), one of the four interconnected dimensions through which FAO organizes its assistance work technique to the countries and organizations of Latin America and the Caribbean.

In support of the Agenda for Sustainable Development, FAO delivers its technical work through Regional Priorities (RPs), guided by the FAO Strategic Framework 31, the MediumTerm Plan (Reviewed) 25 and the Programme of Work and Budget 25, and by countries realities and needs.

In particular, the Better Nutrition regional priority includes five Priority Program Areas (PPAs) that guide the actions to be implemented by FAO : BN1 : Healthy diets for all;

BN2 : Nutrition for the most vulnerable; BN3 : Safe food for all; BN4 : Reducing food loss and waste; BN5 : Transparent markets and trade.







Specifically, in the "Healthy diets for all" priority programmatic area, efforts are focused on generating, analysing and monitoring statistics and trends in FNS and the cost and affordability of healthy diets, as well as producing publications in this area, to support the design, implementation and evaluation of policies, plans, programs and regulatory frameworks for FNS.

Reporting Lines

Thus, under the direct supervision of the Senior Policy Officer (Food and Nutritional Security), leader of Regional Priority 2 in Latin America and the Caribbean : Ending hunger and achieving food security and nutrition (Better Nutrition), and in close collaboration with the FAO RLC Communications Officer,





in coordination with FAO Communication specialist in Country Members and with OCC branches and focal points.

Technical Focus

For the proper performance of the objectives of the position, technical and communicational assistance is expected for the dissemination of data, statistics, evidence, policies, plans, programs and projects for the reduction of hunger and malnutrition in all its forms, the sustainability of agrifood systems for healthy diets for all, the physical and economic access to healthy diets, the reduction of food losses and waste, food safety, as well as the promotion of markets and trade for food and nutritional security.

Tasks and responsibilities

- Assist in the development and implementation of a communication strategy that encompasses all the projects of Regional Priority 2 :





Ending hunger and achieving food security and nutrition (Better Nutrition) in line with the FAO regional Communications Strategy - and the FAO global FAO guidance on communicating the four betters for the Agenda.
- Work in coordination with the communication teams of the main projects addressing regional priority 2, and others linked to it.
- Support in the identification and development of content to produce communication products, such as minutes, press releases, information notes (executive), Social media campaigns, key messages, opinion articles, success stories on beneficiaries and other required materials with a focus on the different audiences, linked to the work of Regional Priority 2 (Media, partners and donors, governments and decision makers, private industry, civil society, among others).
- To help publish reports, newsletters,





success stories and opinion articles in the Latin America and the Caribbean media, in coordination with the FAO communicators in the countries.
- Support in the preparation of main messages, speeches and talking points for political and technical spokespersons linked to Regional Priority 2.
- To support the development of communication materials for the websites and social media accounts on the main projects linked to the Regional Priority 2 work plan.
- Monitoring of appearances in the media, that is, news of its own management and mentions of Regional Priority 2 projects in the press and in the media of strategic partners (at the International and national level)
- Monitor visits to websites, contemplating, in coordination with the digital content team of the Regional Office,





the design of strategies to increase the presence on networks of topics related to Regional Priority 2.
- Assist in the generation of content, advocacy and dissemination strategies for digital and audiovisual materials, and for producing brochures.
- Support in the management, editing and dissemination of priority publications and documents for Regional Priority 2.
- Give communicational coverage to the activities organized by Regional Priority 2 (at regional and national level).
- Participate in the instances of coordination and execution of the communications of the FAO RLC , in general, and of the Regional Priority 2, in particular, for issues related to the dissemination of advances and achievements of agreements, public policies, legislation and governance,





in order to mainstream Regional Priority 2 topics in the main content agendas of said areas within the framework of the availability of available time and the priorities established by the supervisors.
- Support the monitoring of the indicators of the results and related products of the Regional Priority 2 and the preparation of semi-annual, annual and bi-annual reports.
- Support in the preparation of presentations, edit documents and publications and coordinate the production of digital media for Regional Priority 2.
- Carry out other related tasks necessary to ensure the correct development of Communications at Regional Priority 2.
- This consultancy could involve support missions in the framework of Regional Priority 2 within the Region.
- Assist the work of the RLC Communications Office when necessary.
- Liaison with the Office of Communication (OCC) will be maintained, either directly or through an agreed focal point / coordinator, to ensure compliance with OCC standards, appropriate review and clearance processes.

All communication materials will follow FAO clearance processes and comply with FAO standards, including :

CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING

Minimum Requirements

- University degree in Journalism or Social Communication.
- At least 5 years of relevant experience in the media, international or cooperation organizations and / or the public sector.
- Working knowledge of Spanish (level -C-)
- Must be national of Chile, or resident with work permit

- Working level of English (level C) desirable
- Desirable master's degree in communications, public policy, international relations or similar
- Excellent command of Spanish and high command of English, spoken and written, with levels suitable for the production and translation of materials in the aforementioned languages.
- Strategic communication : Design, implementation and evaluation of communication campaigns and strategies.
- Written communication : Writing and revision of editorials, opinion columns, press releases, concept notes, among others.
- Audiovisual communication : Planning, creation and review of videos and photographic projects.
- Social networks : Planning, creation and review of content on Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, among others; monitoring and impact reports.
- Editorial management : Planning, information management, style correction and review of publications.
- Internal communication : Facilitation of processes between technical and communication units; coordination of activities with multiple actors involved in different teams or offices.
- Proficiency with specialized software and tools :
- Microsoft Office : Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Publisher.
- Social networks : Facebook, Twitter, Flickr, Youtube.
- Adobe will be considering an advantage : InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Acrobat, Premiere, Audition, Fireworks.
- E-Marketing will be considering an advantage : Adestra, MailChimp, Google Analytics, TweetReach.
