- About the Role- As a key member of the Corporate Affairs (CA) Minerals Americas Leadership team,





Head of CA Escondida is responsible for overseeing the design and delivery of BHP’s national and local strategies to engage with Governments, Communities and Indigenous Peoples in Escondida.
- Your accountabilities will include:
- Oversee the direction for and day to day management of the Escondida CA function including planning, budgeting, people development and culture.
- Ensure the functions and operations strategies are fully integrated with the company’s overarching global CA, External Affairs and Escondida’s business strategy
- Act as a key strategic advisor on CA to Escondida’s Asset President and member of the Leadership Team, providing CA’s input into the business strategy and plans.
- Member of the CA Minerals Americas Leadership team (CALTA) accountable for working collectively and collaboratively with peers on the enhancement of strategy, practice and capability across the team.
- Partner with Executive Leadership Team members to ensure that operational, strategic and emerging policy,





political and community risks are understood and well controlled.
- Provide governance for external affairs activities in Escondida; government, community and social investment.
- Manage Escondida’s relationships with key external stakeholders including local, state and national governments (political parties, industry/indigenous/environmental/community groups).
- Oversees the development and execution of BHP’s strategy for engaging with local authorities by ensuring BHP’s operating environment is advantaged and governments understand the company’s position.
- Liaise and interact with senior political leaders and government officials on business related public policy issues.






- Negotiate and monitor key partnerships with governments in relation to community and regional initiatives.
- Ensure active, regular monitoring, analysis and research of political and community attitudes to the operations
- Ensure the company contributes to the identification of risks and strategic public policy and trade-related issues that have potential impacts on the business.
- Works closely with the Global Indigenous Engagement (IE) team to drive the implementation of BHP’s IE strategy.
- About You-
- Minimum Requirements- Tertiary qualification in politics, economics, communications, business or related field required; Masters, MBA or other advance degree preferred
- 15+ years of experience in a broad range of corporate affairs competencies, including government and community relations,





stakeholder engagement and indigenous relations
- Significant experience advising business leaders at executive group level and leading communications, public and government affairs and community relations
- Ability to convert public policy to business meaning.
- Experience working in the mining industry.
- Experience engaging and reaching agreements with indigenous and non-indigenous communities.
- Exceptional communications skills including capability to effectively engage with and advise colleagues at all levels of the Company.
- Spanish and English language fluency required.
